We would like to share a story from one of our pantry volunteers:
"At a recent Council on Aging Pet Pantry event I had the pleasure of meeting George, an 89 year old gentleman who is currently residing in a hotel in Brockton with his dog. He had experienced significant flooding issues in his home, causing him to move out. When the city advised him to address other safety issues, he was forced to move out permanently due to financial constraints, and his home is now condemned.
George had been trying to make the hotel room as comfortable as possible for himself and his dog, and was touched that someone would care enough to provide food, treats and toys for his companion. Seeing a large dog bed that had been brought in, he teared up when recounting how his animal was now sleeping on a blanket because his bed had been destroyed. I assured George that we could provide a new bed for his dog free of charge."
